1. FIRST THINGS FIRST
All players need to know the rules of the game before they even think about stepping foot on a field with a paintball gun. When playing on a commercial field , at the beginning of the day, the rules are posted for all to see. READ THEM ! This will help you know what is considered an elimination. This can keep you playing the game rather than thinking you are out. Knowing where the boundaries are and knowing the length of time will help you develop a strategy. And a biggie, is knowing people wearing orange vests are the referees. So do not shoot at them, you will only waste your paintballs.
There are three things every player must know before they get on the field.
1) how to cock the paintball gun and is it pump or semi-automatic.
2) how to re-load the gun . Make sure , if you are using a hopper, that is it secure so you
your ammunition will not fall out of your gun.
3) know where your safety is and make sure you know how it works.
Not knowing any of these rules will make you gun useless. And when you need to fire and your gun doesn't work - Won't you look like a newbie?
3. COMMUNICATE
That cannot be stressed enough......communicate. Within the team members communicate by either hand signals or by voice. Either way is fine. This does not mean you need to have secret hand signals like in baseball or football. It mean if you see opposing players advancing wave to your team mate and signal were they are advancing. They players receiving the signal will be ready for attack no matter what conditions looks like to them.
4. TEAMWORK
If your team can not get it together you and team mates will be picked off like flies...one by one. To be a member of a team means you work together with a tactical objective , cover each other with paintball gun fire, communicate to each other. Even if the team mate or mates are strangers this doesn't mean a cohesive unit cannot made.
5. BUNCHING UP
Ok people, now there is one big happy team. This does not mean you cannot leave each other's side. If all the players think they are going to bunch up in a bunker or behind a tree big enough for several players...wrong. If players are bunch up all it takes for some advanced player to come along and take out the whole bunker. And then your day is ruined. Spread out but remember COMMUNICATE !
