1. DETECT SUFFECENT COVER
When looking for cover, use your head, and do not pick a tree that is smaller in size than you are. Hiding behind a tree trunk that is thinner than you are does not work. Picking a bunker that has a lot of daylight shining through it and enough room that paintballs can easily be shot into it is a no, no. The opponent will take his/her time and will get you every time. If you are thinking , "I know I will pick one of solid bunkers.". Think again. It only makes sense that for you to be able to see what you are shooting at, you will pop up your head. That head and skull are a present to the enemy. And they will thank you every time. The correct procedure would be to look around the side of the bunker...with one eye take a peek at what is going on and keep the rest of your body hidden behind the bunker. make sure your elbow and knee are hidden because those body parts are targets as well.
While you are being pinned down by the player you are fixated on, remember his/her buddies are out there and planning your demise . You are so busy defending yourself from that one player you are not concerned with your surroundings . The buddies are taking advantage of your fixation and will move on you with their strategic gun packages . Taking note of the surroundings around you will help you in not becoming a victim of a surprise attach. Fixating on one target only distracts you and will make the player sneaking up on you a happy camper every time.
3. DON'T FIRE UNTIL YOU SEE THE WHITES OF THEIR EYES
Remember your paintballs have a limited range. Before you start the game check out the range in the paintball site's target range. Most fields do have target ranges so you will be able to see how far and how accurate you gun package and paintballs are. One of the biggest mistakes a newbie does is to shoot at the opponent way to soon. This could be out of nervousness or wanting to make a good first impression. What happens is the newbie has no chance in the world of hitting the opponent . It also gives away your position to the other players and makes you vulnerable to being hit. Wait until the other player gets closer to you. With every yard the enemy advances without seeing you, it gives you a better chance of hitting him before he gets you.
4. BE AGGRESSIVE
Chances are you came to the field with the idea of charging the field and hitting every opponent you could . Playing a purely defensive game doesn't cut it. If you cannot hit the opponents with your paintballs, move up the field. Shooting your gun as fast as you can. The object of the game is capturing the fag is the goal of the game and you cannot capture the flag without moving up the field.
5. DO NOT LET THE EXPERIENCED PLAYERS GET INTO YOUR HEAD
When you arrive at the field and you see all of the shiny guns and you gun is a bit dull. DO not hang your head. Those shinny guns do not perform any better than a dull gun. Anyone with more money than you have can buy flash. And if the experienced player is truthful with you they will tell a lot of flash is for show and to intimidate the other players. It is like playing poker. They try to get into your head so you feel like you cannot compete as well with them. Do not let that happen. The best player on the field may be using a rental gun. The biggest concern you have on the field is how are you going to do on the field. Remember be aggressive , do not congregate, do not fire to soon, and be careful of your surrounding and who knows maybe you will capture a player with the shinny gun.
