Define A Pro Paintball Player

In this article the discussion will center on just who are these pro paintball players. Most teams are set up so that no one team can dominate the game. So if a team ends up in back of the league, they get to draft from the front of the league the next year. Salary caps are not in place and there are no drafts like in other pro sports. Having the riches owners like the New York Yankees does not guarantee a championship. The Yankees pay double and sometimes triple the salaries other teams pay their players. And since 2000 the New York Yankees have only been able to win two championships. Balance is what is needed to win games and bring the fans to the games. So no one team can end up buying its way to the top of the league.

Since pro paintball has no salary cap the teams can pick players from whichever team and whenever they want. Before 2002 this did give advantage to a three or four West Coast teams. Occasionally a less moneyed would win a few tournaments but that was far and few in between . Action from the East Coast was hardly a factor. It would be like taking the Yankees and playing them against your college team.

After ten years of West Coast domination the East Coast teams began to hold their own. IN 2009 teams such as The Boston Red Legion, The Philly Americans and The Tampa Bay Damage took the top three spots in the championship. This year, 2010, saw Edmonton place in the top. Now this year's top three teams in the PXP X-Pro Race to Seven is Edmonton, Tampa Bay Damage, and Boston Red Legion in the top three spots and there is only one more paintball game left to play in the PXP. In the NPPL league the past two years have seen a much more balanced result. Both the West Coast and East Coast teams have won the top spots.

So now that true competitive balance has been obtained in the two paintball leagues it is up for grabs on which team will win the top spot. Teams with the name of Dynasty, Ironmen, or XSV or any other California base team is automatically guaranteed the championship. Teams like Boston Red Legion, Tampa Bay Damage, and various other East Coast teams have a real chance to win the championship.

It is great to be able to go to the tournaments knowing it is not the same West Coast teams dominating the sport. Which makes me happy because being from the Philadelphia area and knowing my team may win or place high at the paintball championship is what it is all about.
